This is what I happened to see on Sunday morning, October 7, 2012. I have never even seen two flickers at the same time on our walnut tree, yet today it was quite the show. The first photo I took, when I never imagined they would stay around, and when I was nervous and excited, was not in focus!! But, as they continued to dance around and around the trunk and then move to a branch, I could only wonder and try to get what I could. I am grateful for a cloudy sky (both because it made for better light conditions but also because I was taking the photos through glass.) It always helps when my camera is nearby and ready to go. As always, any info anyone has about what was going on is ALWAYS appreciated. I suspect it is a territory display.

My guess is, these birds are dancing for joy to have discovered the Olson's good will walnut tree. A testimonial dance. It makes me feel glad to see it.

Ann, these photos are lovely. It is hard to imagine anything but a courtship going on in this dance you caught in your series. Thanks so much for sharing!!
